Just a few random thoughts and pictures

More News/Rumours etc…

I’ve been wandering the net laughing to myself again, and as you all know, I do love to share the various little bits I find out there…

So how about we start with this? The Sun (a UK national newspaper for those who don’t know) reported yesterday, that leaving Doctor Who has cost DT £1million. The story has of course been picked up by other places too, such as ContactMusic.

“David Tennant’s decision to quit Dr Who to perform Shakespeare cost him £1million, new figures have revealed.

The actor’s bank balance plummeted from £2.5million to £1.5million in the first nine months after he gave up the role.

Tennant’s Sandyboy company also saw profits fall by £500,000. The accounts for the firm, in which Tennant channels his earnings, have just been lodged at Companies House.

Tennant, 39, filmed his last four episodes of Dr Who in January 2009 and the accounts cover up to the next September. He played the part for four years.

Tennant has since landed leading roles such as Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare Company.”

There are so many things about this one that make me want to yell I don’t know where to start. Firstly, he didn’t actually leave DW simply to do Shakespeare. Secondly, so what if his companies profits are down, erm, have they not heard of the recession? Isn’t this a pretty widespread thing for most companies over the last 12 months?

As for his bank balance, sorry but I highly doubt they have genuinely gotten access to the figures showing the actual amount in his personal accounts either before, or after, he left DW, and if they have someone will probably have a law suit on their hands. Talk about printing any old crap to sell a newspaper.

On to better, and hopefully more accurate news now. The Drum did a story, also posted yesterday, claiming that the producers of Taggart would love to have DT on the show.

“The producers of long running STV crime series Taggart have said that they would love former Doctor Who star David Tennant to make an appearance in the show, having auditioned and failed many times before.

Margaret Enefer, executive producer of Taggart, who is currently working on the next series of the show which is set to air in the coming months, told The Drum that Tennant would be more than welcome to appear in the programme, should he wish.

Enefer said; “We would love to have David on the show, in fact I can’t believe he’s never been in Taggart! It would be a treat for the audience and he is welcome anytime.”

Tennant has revealed repeatedly in recent years that he auditioned for Taggart on no less than 16 occasions, without ever landing a role.”

I’d love to see DT in Taggart, specially after his comments when he was on Top Gear about how he was auditioning “every week” back when he was living in Scotland, but never landed a role. For those who haven’t seen that, here it is again…

Ok, I think that’s enough work on my part for today, it is a Sunday after all. I’ll just leave you with something to gaze at shall I? Just to prove there’s at least one picture out there of DT, on the set of Decoy Bride, where he’s not wearing that bloody awful paisley/tartan combo….

  1. Hmm, I totally agree about the financial fiasco – poor David! Awful. What it did make me think, though, was that if it were true it would prove that he was acting for the love of it. I think we already know that.
Someone else said that he’d also bought a house, so that, too, would deplete one’s finances.

He’s too nice to do this, but I think it’d be quite funny if David turned THEM down… I mean, he IS very busy!

Aww, lovely pics! It’s funny, in some of the recent pics he looks too thin (a bit like that one) but in others he looks lovely and healthy.

    I hope he’s OK.

    • I agree, he’s always struck me as someone who does it for the enjoyment, rather than fame or money.

I know what you mean about the pics, but I guess everyone is allowed to have an “off” day. I’d have thought doing a film was perhaps less punishing than a TV series, but who knows? Maybe he’s just tired?

  2. Glad I’m not the only one who thinks the Sun should put it where it doesn’t shine. Thanks for the pix.

    • welcome mardy,

personally I’m all for making a very large bonfire and throwing the majority of so called “journalists” on it, lol.

  3. He bought a house for one million cash, at the same time his bank account went down by one million. Duh.

    • Hi Emalia, welcome.

you’re forgetting one important point of course, before a national newspaper will employ you, they insist you have a partial lobotomy to ensure all logic is removed.

  4. What a bunch of rot.
I guess this is the best any rag can do if there is no other dirt to be found on a person.

    • yep, but at least when they publish stuff like this it gives me something to laugh at, so it’s not all bad

  5. I’m not saying that he’s not allowed an off-day! I’m just saying that in some pics he looks more healthy than others, that’s all. And there doesn’t seem to be any consistency.

He probably is tired, it sounds like a lot of hard work, filming (and there’s a lot of “hurry up and wait” involved).

  6. Oh, and on the subject of Taggart, maybe he should do what he did on the Graham Norton Show once; call them, and say
“This is the Doctor. You had your chance, you blew it!”

    HA HA HA!

    Comment by whogal | July 12, 2010

  7. lol, it would serve them right wouldn’t it?

    Comment by develish1 | July 13, 2010

  8. It certainly would, Dev!

Oh and the second pic from the IOM is much better, he looks healthier, somehow… Must be a trick of the light, or a camera angle or something.
